Flying with Clouds With Silver Linings Traveling Using Your GPS (Part II)

Again I am borrowing words from my friend Marcia Davis Taylor. Enjoy!
When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, God led them to take a route that was not the most direct route to the Promised Land.  They followed a cloud during the day, and a pillar of fire, at night.  Neither the cloud, nor the fire, was ever out of their sight.  There was always a “directional sign” for them to follow.

If you are familiar with Exodus, chapters 13 and 14, you know that when the Israelites reached the Red Sea, they panicked.  They felt trapped between Pharaoh’s approaching army and the sea.  They asked Moses if he had brought them to the desert wilderness to die!  Let’s examine why God selected that particular route, and why He brought them to the Red Sea.

As we discussed in “Traveling Using Your GPS Part I”, God can see the road ahead while we cannot.  And, God’s detours are perfect for our individual needs.  God did not lead them on the most direct route to the Promised Land because He knew that if He had, they would have encountered the Philistines.  He knew in his infinite wisdom that if the Israelites feared that they would have to fight so early on their journey to freedom, they would have given up and returned to Egypt.  God’s route appeared to them to be their death sentence, when it was actually a protective course of action.

Do you feel trapped in a situation with no hope of being delivered?  Are you ready to give up in defeat, and return to a place that you know is not for you; because you think you know how your “story” is going to end?  Consider this:  the path you are on is being orchestrated by God, so that you are protected from the potholes that you may otherwise encounter along the way.  His hedge of protection allows us to have the time and opportunity to grow in wisdom and in faith.

The beauty of it is, just as with the Israelites, God uses His “detours” to show us how He will take what seems to be the worst-of-the-worst, and turn it into a miracle of deliverance.  Not only are you blessed, but God is glorified!

Talk about clouds with silver linings!  Have a safe and blessed journey!
