Flying while Traveling Using Your GPS (Part I)

Awesome words from Marcia Davis Taylor!

Sometimes traveling on our life’s journey is somewhat like taking a real-life road trip.  There are times when we are in heavy traffic and frustrated that we have not gotten as far as we had expected at a certain point in time.  Then, to top it all off, we get stuck behind an 18-wheeler, and can’t see the condition of the road ahead or the traffic signals.  Do we slow down and prepare to stop, just in case the light is red? Or, do we follow the truck through the traffic signal without really knowing if it is safe to do so?  That’s how wrecks happen!  Notice I didn’t use the word “accidents,” because the choice we make is on purpose (and not by accident) when we blindly follow the truck through the intersection.  And, what about the times when we just refuse to stop and ask for directions, because we believe we will eventually find our way using our own intellect?  That usually makes our journey longer and even more frustrating.

A GPS unit can tell us what route to follow, what landmarks to look for, and whether to turn right or left. But it certainly cannot tell us when the traffic light will turn green or red.  No matter how fancy our GPS may be, it cannot tell us when it is safe, or too dangerous, to proceed on our journey.  However, there is a different kind of GPS that can give us all of the direction and instructions we need on our journey – it is the God Positioning System.  God can see the road ahead when we can’t.  God sometimes sends us on detours in order to keep us safe from harm.  God knows the best shortcuts (ours often get us lost or take us way off course).  So, the next time you need directions, or you get lost on your life’s journey, use your GPS – the one provided by God.

Have a safe and blessed journey!
