Flying with acceptance

I had the pleasure of having Shane Windmeyer come speak to my class today.  Shane is is a leading author on gay campus issues, national leader in gay and lesbian civil rights and a champion for LGBT issues on college campuses.

What was important for all us to hear is the word acceptance. Acceptance of those who are different than us. This does not mean that you agree with their beliefs, ideas, or thoughts. It simply means that you believe that as humans, they deserve the respect and civil rights that all humans in this country enjoy. 

Don't forget that there was a time when people of color and women were denied certain rights that white men enjoyed. We all want others to be accepting of us. But are we as accepting of those that we do not understand? We should be, the tide can always turn.
