Flying with friendships

I have always done my best to be a good friend. I am always available to help out someone in need. I have not spent much time allowing others to be good friends to me. And it is now a difficult thing to learn and yet very comforting.

Friendship is not a one way street. Friends expect to be called upon to help. I like being able to help others but I was extremely hesitant to ask for help. I am getting better. Maybe it is a pride thing. Someone asked me if I thought I was too good for her help. I am not. It's just that for some reason I think I am supposed to be able to take care of myself all by myself. And yes, that even sounds crazy as I type it.

I am getting better. I have even asked for help last week. And I even got it. Getting help makes things so much easier. Plus there is power in teamwork. Real friends expect to be asked and true friends accept help.

A little boy was having difficulty lifting a heavy stone.
His father came along just then.
Noting the boy’s failure, he asked, “Are you using all YOUR strength?”
“Yes, I am,” the little boy said impatiently.
“No, you are not,” the father answered.
“I am right here just WAITING, and you haven’t asked me to help you.”
