Flying past fake friends

Kim Daniel

Do you have people in your life who pretend to be on your side? You know, the ones that want to know what you are up to so that they can go behind your back and create havoc in your life? Or the ones who circle around you when things are going well and disappear in your time of need? Fortunately I do not have many of those kind of 'friends' in my life yet I am always caught off guard when one appears.

I do my best to be respectful to those types while keeping them at arm's length. What I mean is that I am cordial, very cordial and supply them with very little information about my life. They heard about my accomplishments AFTER I have completed them. That leaves little opportunity for them to jump on my bandwagon. Little time for them to plot against me.  And they have to look up to see what I have done.

I have learned in my 50+ and fabulous years that it is okay to be selective when it comes to friends. In fact it is crucial. We need our friends to be there when things just are not going the way we want them to. When it is difficult to sleep at night. When all seems lost and we need help whether we can admit it or not.

Fake friends are not worth the effort of keeping. Believe me, I know.
