Opting Out of Running in Makeup. Running all made up, with a face full of makeup. I have never done it, but many of my friends do. I am always amazed. It is hard enough for me to make sure that I have on matching socks at 4 a.m. There is just no way I could put on eye liner, mascara, and lip gloss before walking out the door, which is why I get my clothes out the night before. I do not even wear earrings while running, but I seem to be in the minority here. Heck, Salty Running already has a post about runnable make-up. And don’t get me started on the trend of trying to look good in race photos!
If I had to guess, I’d say this is not a
woman scanning the horizon for a stretch of road to do her strides.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not judging. If you can put in the miles, I do not care what shade of lip gloss you are wearing or how dangly your earrings are. I just cannot do running all made up. Nor do I want to do it, frankly. I know there is waterproof makeup and maybe it is sweatproof as well, but with my luck, I would have my Mary Kay hypoallergenic makeup in my eyes or streaming down my face.

Not that I think I should look pretty when I run (okay, in my imagination my skin is glowing and I look beautiful), but I do not want to look like a drowned rat. Plus when I wipe the sweat off my face, I do not want to worry about makeup stains. While I will admit that my friends look beautiful running all made up, it takes super powers to get all made up before a morning run.
I also can’t imagine running with huge hoop earrings. I hate having anything that moves on when I run. I do not even like wearing a necklace or bracelet. One of my friends wears hoop earring so big I can put my fist through them. Again, I am in awe. Not only does she wear them, but she is a pretty fast runner.
The moral of this post is to each her own. Running all made up or naked face like me, there is room for all of us on the pavement.
