Flying on Thursday with Brenda Smith

Hide:
Is to conceal from sight; prevent from being seen or discovered: to obstruct from view of.
After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched as a stature on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. When the blaze had arrived and the heat had singed her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her wings would live.
Does this story remind you of the everlasting love of our Lord and Savior?  How he went to the cross and died for your sins and mine. How he could have come down from the cross and rescued himself, but like the mother bird he chose to take the anguish and pain; even to die to cover and protect us. The mother bird was perched against the base of the tree shielding her babies. Jesus Christ has us at the foot of the cross where we are shielded by His Word and covered by His blood. “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.”  When we are frightened and need a place to go, he too, will gather us under His wings. “He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. (Psalm 119:114 and Psalm  91:4.)
There is no need to fear today. No need to run and hide. God has you covered by His Word, His Wings, and His Way.  Come out from hiding and praise the Lord!
TODAY IS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.  LET US PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER, OUR NATION, OUR PASTORS, OUR FRIENDS, OUR CO-WORKERS, OUR FAMILIES, OUR SICK, OUR SHUT-INS, AND OUR ENEMIES. Let us pray and seek God’s help in every situation.
