Flying with Thursday's Word by Brenda Smith

Thursday's Word

ASK FOR YOUR HEDGE OFPROTECTION

wyman H

Satan stated to the Lord..."Have you not put a hedge ofPROTECTION around him and his household and everything he has?" It is common for Christians to pray a "hedge ofPROTECTION" around a family member, or friends...this is what it means.

In the Old Testament times wild animals were prevalent in the Middle East much more than they are today. The Bible mentions lions, wolves, bears, leopards, and hyenas. Although stone walls could keep predators away from living areas and livestock, the walls would have to be very tall and would take a long time to make. Wood was not plentiful enough to waste on a fence. Instead, a hedge of thorn bushes could be induced to grow around a living compound, home, or dwelling.

A hedge of thorn bushes would be too dense to crawl through, too sharp to chew through, and too deep for all but the most determined leopard to jump over. A hedge would also be a deterrent to sheep and goats seeking to escape their pen. As Satan is compared to a "lion looking for someone to devour" (I Peter 5:8), a thorn hedge is an appropriate metaphor for thePROTECTION God gives His followers.

Have you asked for your hedge of protection today? Ask for that that same hedge thatPROTECTED Job to protect you, your family, and friends. God gives us (Ephesians 6:13-17), putting on the full armor of God. We can and should ask for the hedge of protection, too. There is nothing wrong with asking for protection from our enemies!!  It worked for Job and that same hedge will work for you, too.

God bless.
