Flying a bit lighter

Quentin Hupin
My parents came the other day. They helped me declutter or unclutter my house. My dad fixed my garbage disposal, mowed my lawn, raked the leaves, cleaned off my porch, replaced the fan in the master bedroom, and even cut the dead vine off of a tree that wasn't even mine (all because of a lovely letter from my homeowners' association). My mother helped me go through each room and send things to Goodwill, the trash, or put in their proper places. My house actually looks airy. And I feel less overwhelmed.

It is amazing what one weekend can do. It is amazing what happened because I opened my mouth and asked for help. It took me a while to do that. I thought if I just did a little bit at a time I could do it. Sounds reasonable, right? It was a great theory, but the practical application failed.

I now know that I am moving. I mean I have known that I was for a bit over a month, but there was very little progress made in that direction. Now there is. Now there really and truly is. The contractors (the best neighbors in the world) will work on things in between their other jobs. The plan is to have the house ready to be on the market in June.

So now I must really get serious about finding a place to live in Savannah. My plan is to rent for a couple of years. I have been sort of looking, but not really. I guess I am waiting for some divine intervention. And what will I do when it comes? I don't know, but at least for now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I don't think it is a freight train headed towards me.
