Flying with Thursday's Word by Brenda Smith, part 1

REST – TO BE CALM. NOT TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM ANYMORE.
How many times have you wanted to give up on something or someone? You instead cried out to God and he helped you. If you are an individual who fixes everything,  this is not easy. As soon as one problem is dealt with another one comes along. I fixed the hole in the bucket, and before long another one springs up and water is leaking again…you know the scenario. Sometimes, we just want problems to go away. But remember what Jesus said in (John 16:33) “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  There is no question that we all have problems from time to time. Many times we dig a hole and expect God to fill it up for us. Most often we are trying to find peace through what the world has to offer rather than what God, in Christ, has already offered to us, and then are deflated when it does not happen. There is nothing in the world that is designed to offer us the peace that only comes from resting in Christ and His finished work.
We can even compare the problems we have to rain coming down, streams rising and winds beating against a house. We are God’s “house,” the temple of the Holy Spirit, the Body of Christ. That doesn’t mean that we are immune to problems in this world. The scriptures tell us that God will be with us before, during and after we experience these struggles and keep us from falling.  The only way to cope with our struggles is to get in the Word of God. We need to believe in His promises. The Bible says..the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10).”
