Flying in your own time

Do you think that others always get to places ahead of you? Do you feel the need to go faster? I felt that way the other day and expressed to a dear brotherboyfriend of mine. He told me an old African proverb: Where a runner ended his run, a walker will get there also.

So, take your time (within reason, I am not encouraging procrastination)! Just because others get there (married, have children, get a new job-car-house, etc) before you, doesn't mean that you won't get there. It just means that you will get there when the time is right for you.

This is especially appropriate for me because tomorrow I am running a half marathon. It will be Charleston's first half marathon. I am nervous because my runs have not been stellar. I have struggled at times with minimal mileage and I have been asking myself if running a half marathon is really a good idea.

Of course it is a good idea. There is no requirement for me to win. There is an expectation for me to do my best and I know that my best varies from run to run. My ultimate goal is to finish. I should not compare my times to those of others. Their times do not contribute or detract from mine. I need to just go and run because I can. It's just that simple. I hope I can remember that tomorrow.

As a bonus a dear sistergirlfriend and my niece are making brunch just for me. I was thinking that when all of the other runs changed their plans, that the brunch was gone as well. I am happy that they think enough of me to do this for me. So honestly, no matter how the run ends, I will have a wonderful finish!

D, Best of luck on the run. I often think of you running and staying with it when I have a hard task to complete. You are an inspiration to many. I have been spending time re-reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, one of the agreements; is always do your best, and another is be impeccible with youyr word. I know you will do both as you run.
I will be saying prayers for you at sun rise. Thanks for sharing and best of luck!

What a great quote your friend shared with you! I love that; it's so right. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is 1Peter 5:6 "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time."

Our only job is to please Him. Our only concern is submitting to Him...everyday and in all things!
It's His job to exalt us. And guess when He does it? "In due time." Get your joys out of running the race, my friend - the half marathon and the race of life - and leave the results and the timing up to Him. HIS timing is always perfect.

Awesome blog post! Thanks so much for sharing it. GBU!
