/03/2I usually only watch the Kentucky Derby. This year it had a much happier ending than last year when Eight Bells, a filly who came in second, fell and had to be put to sleep. This year another filly took center stage at the Preakness Stakes, Rachel Alexandra.
Although fillies have beaten the boys before in Triple Crown races, they make up a short list, and a filly win still makes for irresistible conversation. Rachel Alexandra ousts Rags to Riches, who won the 2007 Belmont Stakes, to become the most recent filly to outrun the boys; on one of racing's biggest stages, she held off Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes. Rachel Alexandra may not stop there, either. With her connections eyeing the Belmont, something tells us this chapter in racing history is far from over.
For a very long time, no one told African American women that they could fly, so there are very few of them as commercial pilots. This website is for inspiring women to fly.
