Flying with Michael Steele

Friday former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele was elected as the Republican party's first-ever African-American party chief. He won 91 votes. Only a simple majority of 85 votes were needed. Of course there are those who think that he only won because he is African-American. I would like to think that he was the best candidate for the job regardless of his race. One thing is for certain, lately this country seems to be paying more attention to the qualifications and qualities of minorities and that is a very good thing. The work is not done, but we are headed in the right direction.
