Flying with the YWCA

The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA)was founded as the "Ladies Christian Association" on this day in 1858 in New York. I did not realize that in 1934 the YWCA encouraged members to speak out against lynching and mob violence, and for interracial cooperation and efforts to protect African American’s basic civil rights. It motto is eliminating racism empowering women. I like that, a lot.

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. It has over 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2 million members in 300 local associations in the United States. How amazing is that?

The YWCA has survived for 150 years! That is a very long time. Check out its history and milestones at: http://www.ywca.org/atf/cf/{bdfac750-e249-4889-aa21-1ea98df5b54c}/HOME.HTML

Happy Birthday YWCA!
