Flying with apples

Benjamin Franklin said "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". But is that really true? I did some research and this is what I found. Cornell University food scientist Rui Hai Liu wrote that apples are good for you, They contain flavonoids and phenolic compounds with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-clotting properties. Eating apples may provide lower occurrences of chronic illnesses, such as lung cancer, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases, and thrombotic stroke. Interestingly, those results come from the apple peel. The peel has more antioxidant and antiproliferative activity than apple flesh, which means that the bioactive chemicals, phytochemicals, are concentrated in the peel.

Based on this research found at http://arstechnica.com/journals/science.ars/2008/10/07/an-apple-a-day"an apple peel a day keeps the doctor away". I cannot imagine eating the peel without the meat of the apple. So I will continue eating both.
