Flying on Ash Wednesday

Josefa Holland-Merten

Today is Ash Wednesday. It came a bit too fast for me. I did not really have time to decide what to give up or what to add it.

In past years I have given up negative thoughts, fear of failure, and even a relationship. I have also given up sweet tea, chocolate, french fries, champagne, and I cannot remember what else. If you are pondering this, too here is a list for you.

I am going to add 'drinking water' in for Lent. I have not done a good job of that and now is the perfect time for me to do it. I have downloaded an app on my phone in hopes that I will do a much better job. But honestly, almost anything will be much better than I have done before. I need to be consistent.

I need to wake up and start drinking. I need to have a full bottle on my desk at all times. I need to carry it in my tote bag when I go to class. I need to have it in my car. I need to have it next to my bed. I also need to have the confidence to know that I can do this. That I should do this. That this is good for me.

I know that my body needs water. I know that my body is at least 60% water. This Lenten season, I am going to do much better. I am going to do much better. I am going to do much better. Three times makes it so.

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
