Flying with us

I ran the Kiawah Half marathon on Saturday. I wanted to set a personal record. I did not. I fell. I am not sure why I fell I just did. The guy who helped me up said that I 'fell pretty'. Of course that is exactly what I was going for. I am not really hurt. I am just slightly bruised.

It was an emotional day. It was th first time many of us had seen each other since Yvonne died. There were hugs, tears, laughter, sweat, and recollections. I got to band with three women that I met throught Black Girls Run. These women have become good friends. We 'get' each other in ways that others just don't. Our friendship spans way beyong the physical act of running. We have shed tears on the phone as well as laughter. We have talked about failures as well as triumphs.

This weekend was the first time we were all in the same place in a very long time. We have seen each other separately but it was awesome being together.

Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own desting. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over.
