Flying with unanswered prayers

I am 'borrowing' this from Lavondilyn Watson. I am sharing it because I have often asked myself why God is not answering my prayers. Do you ever have those thoughts? If so, continue reading.

Why are my prayers unanswered?

1. Maybe you have a broken relationship that needs forgiveness so that your prayers won't be hindered. The fellowship may not need to be back in tact, but forgiveness needs to take place. Horizontal relationships with people have a great impact on our vertical relationship with God.

"Therefore I ...
say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses." (Mark 11:24-26 NKJV)

Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23, 24 NKJV)

God cares so much about how we treat others that if we don't treat them right, he doesn't answer our prayers.

2. Maybe you have the wrong motives. Your motive for praying is to "spend it" all on you.
"You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." (James 4:3 NKJV)

You want the prayer to benefit you. You pray the right thing with the wrong motive.
Our motives are not always right. "All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits."(Proverbs 16:2 NKJV)

3. Perhaps, you don't think God will answer your prayer. Our faith matters when we pray! Our unbelief means "I don't believe he will do it for me". (Read Mark 9:22-24.)

4. Maybe you've ignored his Word.
One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. (Proverbs 28:9 NKJV)
When you don't hear what God has to say, He won't hear what you have to say to Him.

5. Maybe you have ignored the poor and needy.
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard. (Proverbs 21:13 NKJV)

6. Maybe you have regarded iniquity in our heart. You treat iniquity as more important than the word of God because you won't let the word get to it.
"If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear." (Psalm 66:18 NKJV)

7. Maybe God's will is better than what you are asking for.
"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." (1 John 5:14, 15)
Do any of these resonate with you, Doretha ? If you need to forgive someone, correct your motives, repent of your sin - whatever you need to do, get to a place where your prayers can be answered! And when you've done it all and still don't hear Him, just STAND. Trust His will and His way. He'll come...He'll never forsake you!
