Flying with God winks, again

This was posted a while back by Pam.

I love unexpected surprises in life, those small God winks in our lives. This morning on my way to work, I wasn’t far from my house when I noticed to my right in a wooded area there was a large patch of blooming white crocuses! It was a beautiful sight and I skidded to a stop to look at them closer. Never fear, I live in the country so I wasn’t a threat to other drivers. So I wondered, how did these beautiful flowers get planted because I don’t think they are natural to the area? I don’t know, maybe the new neighbors on the street planted a mess of them because I spied another large patch a bit further up the road. If so, I silently thanked them for this gift. Signs of spring and new life!

The big smile on my face grew even larger a few minutes later as I was surfing the air waves and heard the beginning of Johnny Cash’ “Boy Named Sue” song. When I was growing up, this was one of my father’s favorite songs and he would belt it out, if just a bit off-key! I was laughing along with the background laughter in the song at Johnny’s folksy lyrics. The memories of Dad poured forth and I laughed and cried for a few minutes this morning, loving life and my memories of Dad. Second God wink for me for the day, what a joy my morning was!

I was looking hard for my third God wink during the remainder of my commute but it didn’t happen or more likely, I failed to recognize it. You know, good things come in threes and I’m sometimes a bit superstitious when it’s fun to do so.

My third special moment came unexpectedly, but of course. I was delivering lunch for Meals on Wheels as I do every other week to some wonderful folks on James Island. I had a lovely, short visit with Mr. H and left uplifted as we hugged and he told me he loved me. These folks are so affectionate and appreciative and I love them back! At my next stop I was greeted by a young girl, around 4 years old and most likely the granddaughter of the couple living there. She asked me to hand her the meals, which was a bit bulky for her small size, but she very capably took them. Then she said “give me a hug” and that totally surprised me but I bent down to hug her and the meals she was holding. She next leaned forward to kiss me and I was bowled over by this most affectionate, loving child that helped me score the trifecta of God wink days!

Keep your eyes, ears and mostly, your hearts open to God winks. Share God’s blessings and winks with others...the good news is contagious!
