Flying taking constructive criticism

There will be times when you don't get it right and in order to succeed we must listen to someone tell us how to improve. I now look at it that way, how I can improve. That takes the sting out of it and I can turn the experience into a learning moment. It does not always work, but I try!

Here is a website that provides good advice on handling negative criticism written by Ken Blumberg. I think that is easier said than done because emotions and pride are involved.

The article advises to do the following:

1. Listen carefully and make sure you understand the feedback.
2. Be thankful for the feedback.
3. Remove yourself from the situation and think about what was said.
4. Tell the person who provided the feedback your plan of action.
5. Realize what you learned and how it can better impact your next action.

Also understand that   there is a responsibility for the messenger to be thoughtful and considerate when providing negative criticism, but that is a topic for another day.
