Flying past the rat

I successfully defended my dissertation proposal (the first three chapters) last Wednesday on my mother's birthday. I was very nervous and turned a 20 minute presentation into a 10 minute sprint. At least the content was there and I fielded all of the questions like a pro.

My celebration was interrupted abruptly by the knowledge that there was a rat in my house. Later I would find out that from  nose to tail it was about a foot long! Yikes! No wonder my mouse traps did not work, the thing could not fit!

I foolishly allowed that to steal my joy and that was not fair to me. So now, before something else comes along, I need to celebrate my accomplishment.

The moral of the story is that no matter what goes awry in your life, take time to celebrate your victories no matter how small.
