When we finally chatted he told me that he had lied about having a job and an apartment. He had been living in an abandoned car and then a shelter for the past two years. He got an apartment in December. I was speechless. I asked him why he sent me money. He simply said, "You needed help". I asked him why he did not allow me to repay him and he said "You needed it". Then he told me how difficult things were for him during that time.
I can only surmise that it made him feel good to be able to help someone while he was in the depth of despair himself. And now he was apologizing to me because he lied about his circumstances. He did not want me to know. I assured him that I was not judging him now or then. I told him that I understand that life throws us curves that may land us in very uncomfortable places. And we do not always learn the lessons we are supposed to learn.
From now on I will accept the assistance offered because people need to bless others. I need to bless people. God works through people. Remember that and be thankful. Be a blessing and allow someone to bless you because that just might be the blessing he/she needs.
