Flying in the midst of stuff

Austin Schmid
Yesterday I had a day off. A day when I was not working anywhere. A day when I could sleep in. I almost did not know what to do. What I did was go for a run on the beach with one of my good friends. She is starting a new venture (to be discussed later) and we had many things to chat about.

That is why I love running with my friends. We discussed taking a barre class. That sounded like a good idea since I had run long on Sunday (10 miles) and needed a recovery activity. She needed one as well. We both figured out that we would not be able to chat, laugh, or whatever if we were in a class. So, the tides were right and we hit the beach for 6 miles.

It was so awesome to just run and not have to come home to do anything productive. It has been awhile. Of course I still needed to pack for my commute, take out the trash, empty the dryer, and other mundane tasks. I also needed to figure out life stuff, but for that short span of time I was on the beach not thinking about what wasn't working in my life, not thinking about how things were going to work out, not stressing about the many things I have no control over.

I just ran barely listening to the waves of the ocean, paying strict attention to my friend, matching her steps in the sand, tuning into our breaths, and marveling at nothing in particular. I need more days like that or at least more moments.
