Friendship is not a one way street. Friends expect to be called upon to help. I like being able to help others but I was extremely hesitant to ask for help. I am getting better. Maybe it is a pride thing. Someone asked me if I thought I was too good for her help. I am not. It's just that for some reason I think I am supposed to be able to take care of myself all by myself. And yes, that even sounds crazy as I type it.
I am getting better. I have even asked for help last week. And I even got it. Getting help makes things so much easier. Plus there is power in teamwork. Real friends expect to be asked and true friends accept help.
“A little boy was having difficulty lifting a heavy stone.
His father came along just then.
Noting the boy’s failure, he asked, “Are you using all YOUR strength?”
“Yes, I am,” the little boy said impatiently.
“No, you are not,” the father answered.
“I am right here just WAITING, and you haven’t asked me to help you.”

I share your feelings on asking for help. I was reared in a family that you were expected to work and be self sufficient I am willing to help others, but I see it as a failure should I stoop to asking for something I have not worked for. Your subject today is interesting. I have done some self reflection concerning it. Jo Hammers
Thank you for your comments. I am getting better at asking for help, but it is still hard.
