Flying with minor damage

I run. I run a lot. I run a lot which means I need a lot of running shoes. Usually I can run in my shoes for about 4 months or close to 400-500 miles. Which is why when my shoe broke the other day I went a bit crazy. Hey, I had my reasons.

First, I was just getting ready to run. Second, I was not a home so I could not grab an older pair. Third, these shoes did not even have 300 miles on them. Fourth, I needed to run.

After staring in disbelief for all of 30 seconds, I decided to run with a broken shoe. I warned my running partner that I would probably be very slow and I was not exactly sure how far I could go running with a damanged shoe. I also wondered how running unbalanced with affect my body. In theory I could hurt myself.

I did not even notice that I was running in a damaged shoe. We ran a bit easy more because my partner was just back from running his marathon and getting ready to run a second one within the same month(Yes, I am blaming that on him). We ran five miles. I ran another six on the same shoe on Saturday. And then I bought new shoes.

I thought about this experience and realized that there have been other times when I conducted 'business as usual' under less than optimal conditions. Most of the time I felt I had no choice. Other times, I just decided to go ahead and finish the task. I may have whined and cried later, but I got it done. It is possible. It is often quite necessary.
