It
is Satan, with his lies and deception, that is able to mislead
Christians into believing that the trials of life are something strange
and not to be experienced by a believer. The pressures of life only
reveal the validity of what we say we believe. If when these pressures
arrive in our life and we are left without the ability to rest it may be
due to the fact that we are trying to live the Christian life in the
energy of our own flesh. “To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me (Col. 1:29).” We cannot live the Christian life without Christ! Jesus
Christ was the only one that ever did live it and now, through the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit, wants to live His life through us. God
wants us to rest and has promised us that rest in Christ.
He did for us what we could not do for ourselves. We rest because we
know that God will use these troubles, struggles, and circumstances for
our good.
We
rest from trying to gain or maintain our right-standing before God
through our own efforts. God has blessed us with every spiritual
blessing (Ephesians 1:3). It is this truth that we are reminded of every
time life gets us down - We Look Up! So while the devil may try and
use our circumstances to rob us of the joy of our salvation, we can rest
assured that what we experience is not indicative of who we are in
God’s sight and what we have in His Son.
Blessed
quietness, holy quietness, What assurance in my soul! On the stormy sea
He speaks peace to me. How the billows cease to roll.
May God continue to bless you is my prayer.
